SHA Hockey Announces Development League for 8 and Under
Boys and girls ages eight and under can explore hockey or get additional experience in SHA’s Development League. Registration runs through October for the league, which will begin in early November.
All sessions will be held locally at South Metro Ice on Austin Pike. SHA coaches are trained and certified by USA Hockey and have significant experience as players and coaches.
The SHA league will organize the teams by hometown, including the Springboro Panthers, Centerville Elks, Bellbrook Eagles, Lebanon Warriors, Waynesville Spartans, Franklin Wildcats, Kettering Firebirds, Miamisburg Vikings, West Carrolton Pirates, Mason Comets and Beavercreek Beavers. The final league format will be based on the number of players who register. Teams will have 10-14 players, and all skaters will have significant time on the ice.
“Our development league—for kids 8 and under—is for beginning ice hockey players or players with limited hockey experience who would like a little more ice time and the chance to play with their friends and classmates. The league is not as competitive, but it’s a great way to learn the game,” says Jack Hanson, SHA Board President.
Players do not need any prior skating or hockey experience for this program. The $199 fee does not include the $35 USA Hockey registration (six and under are free). The USA hockey website is www.usahockeyregistration.com.
SHA is also offering a Learn to Play Hockey Program in September and October for boys and girls ages four to 14. Anyone with questions about the SHA Development League or Learn to Skate programs should call 937-885-5967.
